An interview with Danilo Cortellini, the Italian Embassy’s Head Chef

We wanted to talk about Italian cuisine and since we like to do things properly, we thought, what better way than to interview Danilo Cortellini?

Danilo is the Head Chef of the Italian Embassy in London, founder of the catering company Tiramisoo, a former contestant on Masterchef UK, and author of 4 Grosvenor Square, a cookbook focusing on his work at the embassy.

In a relaxed chat between fellow ex-pats, we took a look back at Danilo’s professional career as a chef proudly flying the flag for Italy abroad. From his childhood in Abruzzo to his experience working in Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy, and finally, to his arrival in the UK “to experience living abroad”. His career as a chef eventually brought him to the Italian Embassy in London – where he has been working for more than seven years – and in the meantime, he has competed in Masterchef UK, founded a catering company, and even written a cookbook!

Simplicity, a love for his job, and a passion for volunteering are what Danilo is all about. Pepe Magazine really appreciated the opportunity to chat to Danilo and wanted to share our catch-up with our devoted readers.

Un’intervista con Danilo Cortellini, l’head chef dell’ ambasciata Italiana

Volevamo parlare di cucina italiana e, dato che ci piace fare le cose per bene, abbiamo deciso di chiedere a Danilo Cortellini un’intervista. 

Danilo è lo chef dell’Ambasciata Italiana a Londra, fondatore dell’agenzia di catering Tiramisoo, ex concorrente di Masterchef UK e autore di “4 Grosvenor Square” il libro di ricette che prepara in ambasciata. 

In una rilassata chiacchierata tra espatriati abbiamo affrontato un viaggio (purtroppo solo) immaginario tra le imprese dello chef che più di tutti rappresenta il nostro paese all’estero tra ricordi dell’infanzia in Abruzzo, le esperienze nei ristoranti stellati in Italia ed il suo arrivo in UK “per fare un’esperienza all’estero” come lui stesso ci racconta. L’esperienza è stata parecchio importante fino a portarlo all’Ambasciata d’Italia a Londra dove lavora da più di sette anni, a Masterchef UK fino alla sua attività di catering e al suo libro di cucina. 

Semplicità, amore per il proprio lavoro e uno sguardo al volontariato, questo in sostanza è Danilo, un bell’incontro per noi di Pepe Magazine e una bella visione per tutti i nostri affezionati lettori.
